Talks with kids about reading fractions and what they represent when kids are young, prepare them for later fraction learning. Ramone is still learning which is way I say 3 line 4, because that is what he is seeing. 

  Kids can learn how to add fractions while they are baking with measuring cups. Learning about fractions is essential for math learning and kids will see them in their entire math learning in grade school and beyond. 

 Measuring 1/4 cup butter and learning fractions at the same time! This is a great visual and hands-on activity for kids to represent 1/4 cup in a different way other than the measuring cup. 

 What is a number, a line and another number called? It's a fraction. What are 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 cups? How do I read a recipe?   

 How do I read fractions? What is 2/3 of a banana? What is 3/3 of a banana? How do I double 2/3? How do I triple 2/3? What if I have 4 bottles of smoothie?   

  Calculating fractions with pizza! 6/12 is the same as 1/2 of one pizza. If we want to add difficulty, we had 2 pizzas, so we can say 6/24 or 1/4 of both pizzas. This activity helps kids understand equivalent fractions that they see in later grades in school. 

 What is 1/4 of a 1/2? What is 1/4 of a whole pizza pop? Questions like these help kids to multiply fractions in later grades! 1/4 of 1/2 is 1/8, but I don’t need to explain that. Showing the concept is what is going to help kids understand the math of fractions later!
